  • 65 Questions You May or May Not Have Been Asked Before

    1. First thing you wash in the shower?
My hair, I start at the top and work down.

    2. What color is your favorite hoodie?
I'm not much of a hoodie guy, but the one I like the most is an AE hoodie that's striped blue and grey

    3. Would you kiss the last person you kissed again?
    Yes.

    4. Do you plan outfits?
    Uh, yeah, duh!

    5. How are you feeling RIGHT now?
RIGHT now? I'm feeling a little defensive, since you put it that way...

    6. Whats the closest thing to you that's red?
    Netflix envelope.

    7. Tell me about the last dream you remember having?
I don't remember dreams often, the last one I remember vividly was of kissing somebody who was all wet. There was a more recent one that I did remember, but most of it's faded. I just remember that I wanted to run, but knew that it was a dream so it'd be in slow motion.

    8. Did you meet anybody new today?
Yep, tons...well, it was a rather small church, so not that many actually.

    9. What are you craving right now?
Food of any description, but a burger because of a tv commercial I just saw.

    10. Do you floss?
Not anymore. I don't know why I stopped. The dentist's office said you should only floss the teeth you wanted to keep, so you'd think I'd floss them all.

    11. What comes to mind when I say cabbage?
Soup. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, they ate cabbage soup. That was a good book.

    12. Are you emotional?
Not outwardly. Inwardly though I'm teeming, teeming I tell you!

Yes. I have no idea why...

    14. Do you bite into your ice cream or just lick it?
I don't bite with my teeth that's for sure. I'm more of a licker. But I do cover my teeth with my gums and sort of suck it into my mouth that way.

    15. Do you like your hair?
Some days I absolutely love it! Most days I'm okay with it.

    16. Do you like yourself?
Not until very recently. Now I am though.

    17. Would you go out to eat with George W. Bush?
Definitely. I would take the chance to eat with any former or current president.

    18. What are you listening to right now?
    NFL on Fox theme.

    19. Are your parents strict?
Strictness is a very objective value. According to most people's scales of strictness, yep they were. I think it was a good thing though.

    20. Would you go sky diving?
    Def!

    21. Do you like cottage cheese?
I don't dislike it, but I don't wake up in the morning with the thought, "I must have some cottage cheese today or my life will not be complete!"

It depends on your definition of celebrity. I would say, yes.

    23. Do you rent movies often?
    Constantly. Netflix, baby!

    25. How many countries have you visited?
USA, Costa Rica, England, France, Ireland, Spain...six

    26. Have you made a prank phone call?

    "No john there?"
    "No"
"Well then how do you go to the bathroom if there's no john?"

    27. Ever been on a train?
Yep, it's the best way to travel in London/New York/Spain

    28. Brown or white eggs?

Yes, but it wasn't as funny as it should have been.

    45. Favorite color?
Blue, because I'm boring that way.

    Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog

Just in case any of you haven't seen this yet; I'd like to remind you to watch it.

During the writer's strike Joss Whedon and all of his friends decided they'd make a cheap, professional-ish, funny musical on the internet. And, by gum, they did it. Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is amazing. I accidentally watched it again the other day and now I'm stuck on it. I've watched it twice today (and some parts of it I repeated over and over [the song My Eyes]). I just bought the season on iTunes, but it's also available on Amazon.com and, (for most of you more importantly), for free on Hulu.com

If you like Neil Patrick Harris from How I Met Your Mother (and Doogie Howser, M.D.), Nathan Fillion from Firefly or Felicia Day from Buffy the Vampire Slayer that alone is reason to watch it. If, for some strange reason, you are none of these, then watch it for the catchy music. Watch it 'cause it's from Joss Whedon. Watch it for how it turns the superhero genre upside down. Watch it for the sheer cleverness. Watch it for the guts it must have taken to try your own project in the middle of the writer's strike.

Watch it because it because it's a young doctor writing on his computer and it's not Doogie Howser (although it's played by the same actor).

No. Watch it for the music. It's amazing.

You've probably already seen it, but I want to remind you that it's still out there. And, if you haven't seen it, GO DO IT NOW!

    New Job

For those of you who haven't heard; I've got a new job.
I can't talk much about it publicly because it's a military contracting job involving special forces (and stuff).

I just finished my first week of work and I love it. Most of my work so far has involved doing motion graphics work in Adobe After Effects. The team I work for is rather laid back. I was afraid that it would be very deadline-oriented and filled with paperwork, but it's not. My boss is very pleasant (so far) and work policies are much more Use Good Judgment than Fill Out This Form.

Not only has the work environment been wonderful, but also the pay/benefits are great.

I've moved into an apartment in Clarksville, Tennessee and it is wonderful. It's the nicest place I've lived since my family moved to Missouri in 1988. The reason I say that? It's got a nice-sized in-ground pool. Well, that and the ceilings are 12 feet tall and the windows are 8 feet tall and four feet wide. And eve though the building's over 100 years old, everything is newly painted and fresh. No bugs, no mice, just beautiful place to live. Come visit me sometime and I'll show you.

I've got tons more I could talk about, but I've gotta go. Call me, message me, email me, text me, whatever me and I'll be glad to tell you more about my new life.

'Copters overhead and Guns in the Distance

I am now a full-time Instructional Systems Developer on the Special Operations Aviation Specialized Support Services Contract supporting the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) Airborne (A), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

This is the story of my interview at the base of the 160th SOAR.

I arrived at the Army base sometime after 0800 hours Tuesday morning. I did not know what to expect.

My rental car had reliably brought me to the Quality Inn the night before, where I was comfortably ensconced for my evening's rest. The CDs I had created especially for the drive helped the miles to pass with more rocking than otherwise might have occurred. My mother, who occupied the passenger seat for the journey, also seemed to enjoy the tunes despite having caused me to listen to them at - what I considered to be - half-volume.

I woke bright and early to my Tuesday morning wake-up call at 0628. I showered and dressed. For those who saw me at graduation, my outfit was the same (minus the robe and hat, of course.) Black pants, socks and shoes, a white belt, vibrant blue shirt with pattern sewn in, black vest (with subtle stripes), and a silver tie with a pattern texture. I was trying to go for dressy, but unique.

I had received directions the night before on how to get to where I needed to go for my interview. I left my mother at the hotel and made my way to Gate 4; the main gate of the Fort Campbell Army base. After presenting my social security number, driver's license, insurance card, and rental papers for the car I was issued a visitor's pass for the vehicle that allowed it on base. Then I drove to gate 7 and, with my recently acquired pass, made my way past the security guard at the barricade. After driving a few miles for a relatively long time due to an MP (Military Police) designated speed limit I finally arrived at a parking lot before entering the SOAR compound. I had to have an escort from this point on. There is extra security required to actually be on the premises of the Special Operations team; who knew?

I got out of my car and waited for the escort. I heard the sound of gunfire in the distance. Big guns too.

Soon I was greeted by my potential boss. We went into the security building and I traded my driver's license for a badge that said, "Escort Required at all times."

After that nothing terribly exciting happened. I talked with them about how I work, I showed them some of my work, they showed me some of theirs... The only difference between this and other interviews I've had was that I could hear helicopters flying for a good portion of the day. Well, that and the examples of work they showed me I'm not allowed to talk about. Let's just say I know a lot more now about the MH-60 than when I started, including how to shut off the fuel to the engines in case the aircraft goes down with me inside.

I spent all day with them from 0900 to about 1600, including being treated to lunch. It must have gone well because I was asked to come back the next morning (at 0815) to begin paperwork.

I returned on Wednesday and was officially offered the job.

I accepted, which meant the beginning of pages upon pages of paperwork. If you are an acquaintance of mine you might be getting phone calls or visits from government men asking questions about me soon. Seriously, some of you will be getting contacted.

I don't know how much I'm allowed to say about the job and its benefits. Let's just say it's a better job offer than I expected coming out of college:
I get (a good amount of) paid vacation.
I get paid health, including vision and dental.
    They do matching 401(k).
    and
The pay is double what I was offered for a job to which I applied last month.

Finally; a job that pays their people reasonably!

Anyway, I just wanted to do a nice big update now that I'm home so you can all "rejoice with those who rejoice". God is good!
